Category: book Nook
Hey,
I was on the paganism/wicca page on about.com
there was a list of books for beginners to read.
I went to the site for my nls library and punched in several titles. ten out of 13 I think. However, I came up completely empty. I seriously doubt rfb and d would have any of this. So, any ideas where to look? just wanna borrow and return type thing. I just wish i knew where to turn. I plan on sending the titles of those 13 books to my reader adviser on monday or somethin. I may have luck what is the experience of most of you on tracking books like this down?
I can send you some if you want.
all right, i have gmail just email from my profile
Did it have Wicca, a guide for the solitary practitioner? That is one book that i would recommend
Hi Jenni. I have an extensive collection on the subject. What titles are you looking for? Also, bookshare has quite a few books, if you see anything on there you'd like to read let me know and I'll send it to you. :)
IQ, can you send me The Circle Within by Dianne Sylvan? Thanks
Hey funny you should ask for that one. A friend of mine scanned and uploaded that one via my account - he is outside the States so not allowed to have a bookshare account. I'll send it to you via msn. :)
I will take absolutely anything i can get my hands on! so yeah, ya can email jennipalmer@gmail.com so send away if ya can.
Hey, maybe I can get 2 issues solved at once in this thread!
I'm pretty new to bookshare. Had the account sitting around for a while, but just payed and had it activated last night. I too was looking for Pagan-related books and found quite a number of them on the site. Unfortunately, I'm able to download them, but unable to open them. It says that the computer can't open them without knowing the program that created them. When I tried to read the HTML versions, I couldn't do that either.
I'd like to get that straightened out, but also, if I can get books another way, that would be great too. For those of you that have accessible Pagan/Wiccan books, what format are they in? I, too, will take just about anything.
Thanks!
I have a handy program called Wintrans-bt, which translates .brf format files into text.
The site where it came from no longer exists, but I've uploaded it to Sendspace.

Are you only looking for books on Wicca or are you interested in other pagan religions. I have many links on Hellenic Polytheism that have interesting information for the practitioner, including some with ancient material translated into English. I also have a site for Religio Romana.
To tell the truth, I'm more interested in those on modern witchcraft, but I'm open-minded.
Miss Prism, what exactly does your program translate?
Anyway, I've got bookshare figured out..sort of, and so I'm now able to read from there.
Thanks everyone for your help!
I will take literally anything i can find, i cant afford bookshare. and i am not a student. I have rfb and d but yeah. I wish nls had stuff but i think its narrators who may not want to read the stuff. I dont know i may ask. would be interesting to see if they do put some out there.
I believe there's a site where members can swap books. Perhaps, you can join there and get the books from them to scan or maybe, they might have audio or e-texts. Worth a shot.
The translator changes files from .brf to .txt. So if you had a web braille file from NLS, which are only available in .brf, or a Bookshare file, you can translate them into plain text, which would allow you to read it on your computer.
Someone above mentioned having trouble doing this, or not knowing what to do with brf files, so I thought this might be helpful.
Okay, a couple of responses to the topic here.
1. To Ice Queen, if your friend is outside the U.S., they can still get bookshare as it has a U.K. version.
2. To Tiffanitsa, double check your list of Hellenistic links as the list you sent me had about 5 or 6 dead ones with error messages and the ones with geocities in the link are gone completely as that web host has closed permanently.
3. To Prism, I think, thanks for the link on the translation program for BRF to TXT files.
4. Yes, the nls, rnib, cnib do carry books on Paganism and other religions. I am not a member of the Canadian or U.K. Royal libraries as I live in the U.S., but I can get you some book numbers if you want them on cassette. I don't know if you have the new digital player yet, but most books are still available on cassette. Let me know and I can send them to you through a PM or email if you want.
Also if you don't have a full bookshare account, you can still sign up for free and you can do a search for witchcraft, pagan, and others in the edit box and it should bring up a list. If the book listed has 4 types of download files and it includes html and rtf or txt, then its free and you can download that kind for free, even those are a bit older some still have useful information. Though, be aware you might get some on ancient history, ancient religions, folktales and things like that.
Oh, if anyone knows of any good pagan, egyptian, or other older religion that is now practiced today like druidism, various celtic, please send me some links through private message or post here as I'm looking for some sites.
Chastity
actually, there are a couple of books on audible that deal with paganism. If anyone likes stuff by starhawk, check them out.
Ooooh. Agrees with chinchilla/chastity, if you've got some of those type books in particular, please pleeeeease send me some...yeah anyway. I'm trying to get Louise aka fire-walker to send me her magic texts but she's in South Africa now, so...or, does anyone know of a good site where one can read such texts, new or old?
